Dating back to 1966, the Notting Hill Carnival is an annual festival held every August Bank Holiday weekend in London’s Notting Hill.
Over a million visitors descend on Notting Hill each August to watch miles of colourfully dressed performers, listen to multiple bands, and taste the goods of street vendors selling delicious Caribbean food, the Notting Hill Carnival is one of the most exciting festivals in London.
While the Notting Hill Carnival runs throughout the Bank Holiday weekend, Monday is the main event. This is because the Notting Hill Carnival parade happens on the Monday of the Notting Hill Carnival. Running from Great Western Road through Chepstow Road to Westbourne Grove and Ladbroke Grove, the Notting Hill Carnival parade is a spectacle of sights, sounds, colors, and amazing floats.
How to Get to the Notting Hill Carnival:
One good way to get to the Notting Hill Carnival is to go by public transport. It’s better than driving, as most of the roads in Notting Hill will be closed off for the festival, and those that aren’t will be packed with cars.
Taking the bus or tube to the Notting Hill Carnival is a good idea, but keep in mind that bus routes will be diverted and some tube stations will close for the duration of the carnival or be temporarily closed due to overcrowding.
To avoid transport problems, the best way to get to the Notting Hill Carnival is to walk.
