While it's possible to visit Stonehenge on your own, there are some great companies that offer Stonehenge tours. Here are two of my favorite Stonehenge tour companies:

Mad Max Tours of Stonehenge

Mad Max Tours of Stonehenge take visitors from Bath to Stonehenge for tours of the historic sites in the area. Family run Max Max Tours picks up visitors near Bath Abbey in small buses and give friendly, informative day tours that cover Stonehenge and Avebury as well as the village of Castle Combe in the Cotswolds and the National Trust's Lacock Village.

Full day tours are 27.50 GBP. They also offer half day tours of Stonehenge and Lacock Village for 15.00 GBP.

Vics Taxi Tours of Stonehenge

Vics Taxi Tours of Stonehenge are private tours that take visitors from Salisbury to Stonehenge. Vic, a retired RAF gentleman who has lived in the Salisbury area for years, knows the area thoroughly and has wonderful stories to entertain visitors while driving to Stonehenge.

Stonehenge tours last 2 hours and cost 40.00 GBP. Vics Taxi Tours can also arrange a private access to Stonehenge tour for 15.00 GBP/person, 20.00 GBP for 2-4 people, 3.00 GBP for each additional person over 4 people. Custom tours are available upon request.

Stonehenge is an easy day trip from London. Getting to Stonehenge from London is easy, and you can combine the trip with a stop at Salisbury Cathedral on the way there or home.

Stonehenge has attracted visitors from around the world for many years. A prehistoric monument, Stonehenge is a UNESCO World Heritage Site shrouded in the mystery of its unknown origins and purpose. Stonehenge is home to massive sarsen stones and Bluestones brought to the area around 4,000 years ago.

People making a Stonehenge day trip from London can tour the area around the stones (6.50 GPB for adults, free audioguide). The stones themselves are roped off, so visitors can only view Stonehenge from a distance.

Stonehenge tours are available through a number of companies in the area, some of which can arrange private viewings of the stones after regular hours.

How to Get from London to Stonehenge

To get from London to Stonehenge requires taking a train and a bus. Scary as that may sound, it is not difficult to do.

How to get from London to Stonehenge:

1. Take a train from London to Salisbury at 20 minutes past the hour (you have to take a train at this time or else you will have to wait a long time for your bus connection in Salisbury).

2. When you arrive in Salisbury, exit the train station and turn left. Walk along the station's outer wall for about twenty yards. You will see a sign for a bus stop. The bus should arrive at 50 minutes past the hour and leave on the hour.

3. Board the bus and pay 7.50 GBP for a return ticket to Stonehenge. The bus will take you directly to the Stonehenge visitor center (non-stop).

Alternately, you could take a Stonehenge tour with a local tour company that will take you from Salisbury or Bath to Stonehenge.
