Salzburg Christmas Market
The Salzburg Christmas markets are some of the best in Austria. They cover a large area in the old town and light up the winter sky with bright lights every year.
The main Christmas markets in Salzburg are located in and around the square in front of Salzburg Cathedral. One market is in Cathedral Square, another is located in the square to the left of the cathedral, and a third is located in a square adjacent to that one. There are also other, smaller markets dotted throughout the city in places like the street in front of the Mirabell Palace.
The Salzburg markets offer everything a traditional European market should, including chalets selling wooden angels, snow globes, nativity scenes, and other gifts. There are also plenty of places to buy hot Gluhwein, bratwurst, chocolate, and other seasonal foods.
Every Saturday at 17:30, the Christ child appears from a balcony window in Cathedral Square while a choir sings carols. Other events include a winter ice skating rink near the K+K Hotel in Salzburg.
This year the Salzburg Christmas markets in and around Cathedral Square are open from late November to late December. The markets are open from 10:00 to 20:30 on weekdays (until 21:00 on Fridays), 9:00 to 21:00 on Saturdays and holidays, and 9:00 to 20:30 on Sundays.
