The Yeatman is one of the best hotels in Porto. Luxurious without being over-the-top, the hotel’s elegance and refinement make it one of the best places to stay when you are visiting Portugal.

Being in Vila Nova de Gaia, The Yeatman naturally focuses on wine. The hotel is associated with the nearby Taylor’s Port wine house, but it features a broad range of Portuguese wines and also carries some international ones as well.

Rooms at The Yeatman are spacious and decorated in classic tones. All rooms have spectacular views of Porto across the Douro River, and are provisioned with all of the amenities that one would expect from a Relais & Chateaux property.

The grounds at the hotel are gorgeous, with terraced lawns cut into the hill and a giant decanter shaped swimming pool from which guests can enjoy views of the city. There are terraces for enjoying a glass of wine or a cocktail, too.

Inside of the hotel, there is a spacious bar and lounge as well as a Michelin-starred restaurant called the Gourmet Restaurant. There guests can enjoy fine dining as well as top wines from all over Portugal. This being Porto, there are also plenty of opportunities for wine tasting both in the hotel and nearby.

Downstairs there is a spa with an indoor pool and treatment rooms, as well as a cellar where guests can view all of the different wines on offer.

Rooms at The Yeatman hotel in Porto start at 139 euros per night for executive rooms without breakfast. There are packages and offers available throughout the year, so make sure to check before reserving your stay.

Aquapura Hotel in the Douro Valley Review

Five-star Aquapura is one of the best hotels in the Douro Valley, and is a great place to stay when you are visiting Portugal.

Set in fertile lands on one of the few relatively flat parts of the region, Aquapura looks like it could come straight out of Tuscany. That image is helped by the fact that the hotel is housed in a former private mansion that was built to look like a historic castle.

The fairytale continues inside Aquapura, where high ceilings and luxurious furnishings give the place a feeling of opulence. Long corridors offer lounges for relaxing, and two restaurants—one with a gorgeous outdoor terrace—serve excellent food. Even the breakfast buffet looks like it comes straight out of a royal banquet.

The grounds of the hotel offer everything from swimming pools to tennis courts and childcare areas in addition to great views of the vineyards and a tributary of the Douro River.

Back inside the hotel, the Aquapura spa is one of the highlights. It offers treatment rooms for massages and other therapies as well as a large indoor swimming pool and a gym.

The only thing not to love about Aquapura is the guest rooms themselves. Standard rooms are large and some have beautiful bathtubs in the middle of the rooms, but the olive green color scheme is a bit drab and the scuffed paint in some of the rooms could use some touching up.

That said, the hotel’s suites are very nice, and don’t have the color or paint problems that some of the standard guest rooms do. If you can’t afford to stay in a suite, it might make more sense to do Aquapura as a day trip in the Douro Valley.

Rooms at Aquapura hotel in the Douoro Valley start at around 250 euros per night. Regular offers and packages are available throughout the year, so make sure to check before booking.

Quinta do Vallado Hotel | Douro Valley Review

Quinta do Vallado

Quinta do Vallado Hotel

Quinta do Vallado is one of the best hotels in the Douro Valley. With a focus on design and style, the hotel combines comfort with elegant luxury, and offers guests a place to relax and enjoy the highlights of the region while they are visiting Portugal.

Located on a hill near the city of Regua, Quinta do Vallado offers stunning views of the vineyards from its lobby, restaurant, guest rooms, and pool area. The hotel also has plenty of outdoor space, with beautiful gardens that offer the perfect places to sit and admire the scenery.

Guest rooms at the hotel come in two different styles, depending on whether you are staying in the historic 18th century building or the new 21st century building. The former are modern with classic undertones, while the latter are all contemporary comfort.

Rooms are large, and have comfortable chairs, desks, wardrobes, and spacious bathrooms. Many rooms also have small terraces that overlook the Douro Valley vineyards.

Guest rooms start at 100 euros per night, which is great value for money for a hotel of this caliber. Included in the rate are a cellar tour, wine tasting, bicycle hire, fishing tackle, fruit, wine in the room, and breakfast.

Speaking of cellar tours, as Quinta do Vallado is a winery, guests are treated to guided tours of the cellar, which is shaped like a large wine barrel. There are also opportunities to go on a jeep tour of the vineyards, which climb up impossibly steep hills to a beautiful vista point at the top.

Back at the hotel, guests can dine on classic Portuguese cuisine at the restaurant. The chef, a local woman, cooks up traditional regional cuisine that is good enough to rival the likes of DOC and other top restaurants in the area.

Whether you stay one night or ten, sleep in the historic wing or the contemporary, Quinta do Vallado hotel in the Douro Valley will be a highlight of your trip to Portugal.
