The Mosteiro dos Jeronimos in Lisbon is one of the city’s most visited landmarks. The building is a stunning example of Manueline architecture, a unique style that distinguishes it from most others in the world.
The Mosteiro dos Jeronimos is known for being the final resting place of Vasco da Gama, who himself inspired the construction of the church in 1501.
With its nautical-themed decor and its impressive Mannerist altar, the Mosteiro dos Jeronimos is a beautiful architectural gem. Like it’s neighbor the Torre de Belem, the Mosteiro is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Located in Belem, the western part of Lisbon, the Mosteiro dos Jeronimos is not within easy walking distance of central Lisbon. To get to the Mosterio from the city center, take tram 15 or bus 727, 28, 729, 714 or 751.
