Trains from Lisbon to Madrid

Trains from Lisbon to Madrid are a great way to get from the capital of Portugal to the capital of Spain.

Trains between the two cities run nightly from Lisbon’s Santa Apolonia train station to Madrid’s Chamartin train station. Trains on this route also stop at Lisbon Oriente train station before departing the city, so if it is more convenient for you to board the train there, you can do so.

The train that travels on this route is the called the Lusitania Comboio Trenhotel train. But despite the name having the word “hotel” in it, do not mistake this for a luxury train from Lisbon to Madrid. In reality it is a standard train with sleeping cars.

There is a Lusitania Comboio Trenhotel train departing from Lisbon daily at 22:30, arriving in Madrid at 8:58. Taking the overnight train is a great way to save money while you travel in Europe, as it saves you the cost of a hotel room for the night.

When riding the train from Lisbon to Madrid, keep in mind that there is a one hour time difference between Lisbon, which is on GMT, and Madrid, which is on CET. Madrid is one hour ahead.
