Louis XIV commissioned the building of the great Chateau of Versailles in the 17th Century. From that time until the French Revolution, the government and the French aristocracy were centered in Versailles.
Known for its beautiful architecture and opulent extravagance (like the famous Hall of Mirrors), Versailles attracts visitors from around the world.
Palace of Versailles Hours:
The Chateau of Versailles is open Tues–Sun 9:00am–6:30pm (April–Oct), and Tues–Sun 9:00am–5:30pm (Nov–March).
The Domaine de Marie Antoinette is open daily 12:00pm–7:30pm (April–Oct), but buildings close at 6:00pm; daily 9:00am–5:30pm (Nov–March), but buildings close at 5:00pm.
The Versailles Gardens are open daily from 9:00am-sunset.
