Louis XIV commissioned the building of the great Palace of Versailles in the 17th century. From that time until the French Revolution, the government and the French aristocracy were centered in Versailles.

Palace of Versailles Hours
The Chateau of Versailles is open Tuesday to Sunday from 9:00 to 18:30 from April to October, and Tuesday to Sunday from 9:00 to 17:30 from November to March.
The Trianon Palaces and Marie-Antoinette’s Estate are open Tuesday to Sunday from 12:00 to 18:30 from April to October, and Tuesday to Sunday from 12:00 to 17:30 from November to March.
The Versailles Gardens are open every day from 8:00 to 20:30 from April to October, and Tuesday to Sunday from 9:00 to 18:00 from November to March.
