To take a train from Munich airport to the Munich city centre, follow signs to the S-Bahn train station in the airport’s main terminal.
Once there, purchase an S-Bahn train ticket for 10 euros and make sure to validate it at a ticket stamping machine before you board the train. This will ensure that you will not be fined if your ticket is checked.
You can also purchase an Airport-City Day Ticket for 11 euros, which covers the entire network from the time of purchase until 6:00 the following morning. If you are travelling with up to 5 people, you can all ride on one Airport-City Day Ticket for 20 euros. You do not need to validate these tickets.
From Munich airport, ride suburban S-Bahn train line 8 (S8) or line 1 (S1) to the Munich Hauptbahnhof (main tran station) in central Munich. You can also alight at another stop if it is closer to your final destination. Most S-bahn stops are served by other forms of public transportation or other S-bahn lines, so you can continue your journey if need be.
Trains run every 10 minutes, and the journey from the airport to the Hauptbahnhof takes 40 minutes.
You can also take a taxi or bus from Munich airport to the city centre. Take a look at the Munich Airport Transportation guide for more information.
