In 2009, Irish-American billionaire and philanthropist Chuck Feeney decided to do something to promote American tourism in Ireland and help out travellers in a rough economy at the same time.
Feeney proposed a scheme that would offer Americans visiting Ireland a $100 voucher. The voucher could be combined with the purchase of flights to Ireland and hotel accommodation in the country.
