The Castelo dos Mouros in Sintra, Portugal’s most magical city, is one of the best destinations in the area.
High on a hill, the Castelo is a great place to hike to. The castle offers some of the best views of Sintra and the Palacio da Pena in the valley below.
When you are visiting the Castelo dos Mouros make sure to visit the Castle Keep, Knight’s Quarters, Church of Sao Pedro de Canaferrim, Memorial and Ossuary, Secret Passage, Cistern, Royal Tower, and Castle Walls.
There are three ways to get to the Castelo dos Mouros from Sintra. First, you can hike up the hillside from the small, winding streets below. Second, you can take Scotturb bus number 434, which runs from the Sintra train station and Sintra tourist office to the Castelo dos Mouros entrance (a round-trip ticket is around 4.00 euros). Whatever method you choose, the Castelo entrance and ticket booth are located just off the main road from Sintra. The admission price for the Castelo dos Mouros is 5.00 euros for adults. Concessions are available.
