Dover Castle in England
Dover Castle

Historic Dover makes a great day trip from London. With the Medieval Dover Castle, the beautiful White Cliffs of Dover, and ferries from England to France, many people visiting the UK make a trip to Dover to see the sights.

Getting from London to Dover is best done by train. There are departures every 30 minutes from each of Victoria, Charing Cross, and St Pancras train stations in central London, making it convenient for visitors to travel to the coast.

Once in the city, make sure to visit Dover Castle. While there, don’t miss the tour of the World War II caves. Tours book up early, so make your appointment in advance or as soon as you arrive.

Aside from the castle, the city is best known for the White Cliffs of Dover. The cliffs can be viewed from the sea on a boat tour, or from the land by the port.

If you plan to stay in Dover for more than one day, consider taking a ferry to France. Ferries offer great views of the cliffs and are a fun way to travel to continental Europe.
