Royal Wedding Events

Royal wedding events in 2011 took place throughout London, giving those that were not on the exclusive guest list a chance to participate in the festivities surrounding the much-anticipated marriage of Prince William to Kate Middleton.

Royal wedding events included festivities like Mayor of London Boris Johnson’s £100,000 wedding kick-off party in Trafalgar Square for St George’s Day on 23 April 2011. The event featured concerts by star performers and West End musical actors, as well as young local musicians.

Another of the important Royal Wedding events that took place in London in the run-up to William and Kate’s marriage was the 60th anniversary of the Festival of Britain. It took place on the Southbank in London and featured carnival rides, live music, food and drink, performances, and dancing.

As part of the Southbank celebration, on the day of the Royal Wedding there was a concert by Billy Bragg and events featuring artist Tracy Emin, celebrity chef Heston Blumenthal, and musician Ray Davies.

Elsewhere in London, Royal Wedding street parties took place. Throughout the city there were road closures to make way for celebratory parties to mark the historic occasion.
