Sculpture in Prague
Czech artist David Cerny is best known for his controversial public art works in Prague. Cerny is also known for his acts of dissidence against the Communist regime in Czechoslovakia. For example, he was once arrested for painting a soviet tank memorial.
More recently, David Cerny made headlines for his unorthodox artwork for the European Union. It caused quite a stir in many member countries throughout Europe.
Cerny’s work can be seen all over Prague, and his style is very recognizable. Among the most famous (and most visible) works of David Cerny are as follows.
– The giant crawling babies on the famous Zizkov TV tower in Prague.
– The upside down statue of St. Wenceslas riding a dead horse. It is hanging from the ceiling in the Lucerna shopping arcade in Prague.
– The statue of Sigmund Freud hanging from a pole with one arm at the top of a building.
– Men peeing in a fountain in Prague by the Franz Kafka Museum (pictured).
