Taylor’s Porto

Taylor’s Porto
Address: Rua do Choupelo 250, Porto, Portugal
Phone: 223 742 800
Opening Hours: 10am-6pm Monday  to Friday (September to June), Monday to Saturday (July and August)

My favorite Port wine tasting venue in Porto is Taylor’s. Officially named Taylor Fladgate & Yeatman, Taylor’s was founded in 1692 and is an old British establishment.

Taylor’s has been family owned since its inception, and it makes some of the best Port wine in Portugal.

Taylor’s is located high up on the hill in Vila Nova de Gaia, which is right across the Douro River from Porto. To get there, you can follow the signs from the waterfront, which will lead you up the small winding streets to the tasting rooms and cellars.

The steep climb is worth it, as the views are amazing, the gardens beautiful (peacocks and Japanese chickens, anyone?), and the Port excellent.

When you arrive, make sure to take a free tour of the Taylor’s Port warehouse, where you’ll learn about Port wine making and see the barrels in which the Port is aged.

At the end of the tour, you will have the opportunity to taste several of Taylor’s Port wines in the tasting room. They usually serve a white Port and a tawny Port.

If you have time after your tour, buy a couple of bottles of Taylor’s Port wine to take home and make sure to eat a leisurely lunch or dinner at the Taylor’s restaurant, Barao de Fladgate. The views over Porto are great, and the food is top notch as well.

A Tasquinha Restaurant in Porto

A Tasquinha Restaurant
Address: Rua do Carmo 23, Porto, Portugal

A Tasquinha restaurant in Porto is a great place for a light snack or a lively dinner. The dining room is decorated in traditional style and has a pleasant atmosphere.

The restaurant is located just off the Jardim da Cordoaria near the Igreja do Carmo and the Hospital Geral de Santo Antonio on Rua do Carmo. Its location in the heart of Porto makes it a great choice for a meal during or after a day of sightseeing.

A Tasquinha restaurant serves a wide variety of dishes. These include great fish and meat main courses, most of which are served with the traditional side of French fries.

When you order your meal at A Tasquinha, keep in mind that portion sizes are much larger than normal. For example, even the half portions come with two pieces of meat or fish and a generous helping of fries. As such, you may want to share a starter or skip one altogether.

As for beverages, there are plenty to choose from. The wines by the glass at A Tasquinha restaurant are given in generous pours, so you’re sure to have a good time.

Typical prices at A Tasquinha restaurant in Porto are around 9 euros for a half portion of a main dish, 2 euros for a glass of wine, 1.50 euros for bottled water.

Port Wine Tasting in Porto

As the name implies, Porto is the city from which Port wine originated. Port wine tasting in Porto is therefore a popular activity for people visiting this part of Portugal.

Today visitors to Porto can experience Port wine across the Douro River in Vila Nova de Gaia, where many Port companies have warehouses, tasting rooms, and restaurants.

Port wine tasting in Porto is a great way to spend a sunny afternoon or a chilly winter day. You can take a tour of the cellars and learn how Port is made, then go to the tasting rooms and sample several different Ports. There are also shops where you can often buy Port at a discount to the retail price.

From the numerous Port wine warehouses lining the river to the more hidden ones up the hill, there are many different places to choose from. So how do you pick the right one? There is no correct answer, but there are some places that are more famous and accessible than others.

One of my favourite Port wine tasting venues in Porto is Taylor’s. An old British establishment, Taylor’s is located high up on the hill. You can get there by following the signs from the waterfront in Vila Nova de Gaia. The steep climb up to Taylor’s is worth it, as the views are amazing, the gardens beautiful, and the Port excellent.

Take a tour of the warehouse and then try several of Taylor’s Ports before having a leisurely lunch or dinner at Barao de Fladgate, the excellent restaurant. Or you can make a quick stop there before heading off for more Port wine tasting in Porto.

Another of the best places for Port wine tasting in Porto is Graham’s. Located near Taylor’s in Vila Nova de Gaia, the lodge offers tours with guides that are incredibly passionate about Port wine. Visitors can also do a tasting of ruby, tawny, or vintage Port at the end.
