Railway Bridge on the Thames
If you’re under 26 or a full-time student, a great way to save money in the UK is by getting a 16-25 Railcard (formerly Young Persons Railcard).
The 16-25 Railcard allows students and young people to get a 30% discount on most train fares in the UK, including the Heathrow Express and Gatwick Express trains to the London airports.
It also gives you a discount on a day travel card for the London Underground if you travel at off-peak times. Additionally, the card offers savings on participating restaurants, hotels, and offers for days out.
The 16-25 Railcard for the UK is a great deal if you are planning to travel by train throughout the UK. On more expensive train routes, the card can pay for itself in a single round-trip journey.
To get a 16-25 Railcard all you have to do is fill out a form, get a passport-style photo taken, and show proof of age with a valid ID card or passport. You can apply for the 16-25 Railcard online, over the phone, or at a train station such as London Paddington or Euston.
The 16-25 Railcard for the UK costs 28 GBP if you buy it in person, and 25.20 GBP if you buy it online. It is valid for a 12-month period starting from the date of purchase. You can also get a 3-year railcard for 65 GBP if you are eligible.
