Less than an hour by train from the capital, Cambridge, England makes a great day trip from London.

Cambridge is one of England’s most famous university towns (the other being its rival, Oxford, which is 3 hours and 25 minutes away by bus). Established in 1209, Cambridge University is world famous for both its outstanding academics and its architectural beauty. As a result, visitors from all over the world flock to Cambridge every year.

There is no shortage of things to do in Cambridge. Many people visiting Cambridge enjoy walking through the colleges to see the courtyards, grounds, and chapels. Others enjoy punting on the River Cam, visiting Cambridge’s world class museums, shopping at the stores and boutiques in the city center, or drinking a pint at a local Cambridge pub.

If you plan on visiting Cambridge during exam periods, take note that many of the Cambridge Univeristy colleges are closed to visitors during these times and and several other times throughout the year.
