Royal Observatory in Greenwich
Greenwich, London is located in the southeast of the UK’s capital city. Home of the Prime Meridian and birthplace of Greenwich Mean Time (GMT), Greenwich attracts visitors from around the world.
Greenwich is famous for its many museums, including the National Maritime Museum, the Royal Observatory, The Queen’s House, the Old Royal Naval College, and the Cutty Sark.
Greenwich is also famous for its 17th century architecture, most notably that of acclaimed British architects Sir Christopher Wren and Inigo Jones. Particularly good examples of their work are Wren’s Old Royal Naval College and Jones’ The Queen’s House.
People visiting Greenwich can get there by taking the tube and DLR to Cutty Sark, or by taking a train from central London to Greenwich station.
Visiting the museums, walking around the park, and exploring the shops in Greenwich takes around 5 to 6 hours if you stop for lunch at one of the many waterfront pubs along the Thames. It is a great day trip from central London, not least because most of the museums are free to enter.
