The Cotswolds
The Cotswolds are arguably one of the most beautiful areas of England, and they make a great day trip from London, Bath, or Oxford.
Located in the west of England near Wales, the Cotswolds span a wide area from Oxford in the east to Bath in the south. Visiting the Cotswolds is best done by car, as train service is limited and buses run infrequently. This is especially true with respect to the smaller and more beautiful towns and villages.
The Cotswolds are best known for their old stone houses, rolling green landscapes, and lovely gardens. The best time to visit the Cotswolds is in the late spring when the flowers are in full bloom, but the region is beautiful at any time of year.
The best towns to visit in the Cotswolds include Upper Slaughter, Lower Slaughter, Burford, Bourton on the Water and Bibury. You can visit all of them in one day, or take your time and stay overnight at a hotel or B&B in the Cotswolds.
Getting to the Cotswolds on a day trip from London is easy by car. You can hire a car at Euston station if you are already in the city centre. If you are not, there are plenty of options for car hire at Heathrow, which is the closest London airport to the Cotswolds.
If you don’t want to drive on your Cotswolds day trip from London, you can take a train from London to Cheltenham or another large city in the region. From there you can connect to buses to get around.
