Traveling by train from Florence to Cinque Terre is a great way to get from Tuscany to Liguria when you are visiting Italy.

Trains depart from Florence Santa Maria Novella (SMN) train station and arrive at the five train stations in Cinque Terre. All trains on this route require one or two changes on the way at Pisa, La Spezia, or both.

Trains from Florence to Cinque Terre run up to twice an hour at peak times, and are operated by Trenitalia on Regional, InterCity, and Frecciabianca trains.

The journey time can be as little as 2 hours and 21 minutes (to Riomaggiore, the southernmost town in Cinque Terre) and as long as 3 hours and 14 minutes. Trains with fewer changes are not always faster than services with more connections.

The cost of a train ticket depends on what kind of train you take and when you buy it. Prices range from 12.20 euros to 23.80 euros in second class and 16.10 euros to 32.20 euros in first class. You can purchase tickets at the train station prior to departure, or buy train tickets online in advance to get a discount.
